About the Event

Come learn about the history of sidewalks from Carl Valdez with Precision Concerete Cutting hosted by the City of Fremont!

  • 10:00 to 10:30 - Check in and onsite registration (RSVP required for meal planning)

  • 10:30 to 11:30 - Presentation on the history of sidewalks
  • 11:30 to 12:30 - Chapter announcments, Lunch and door prizes!

Learn about the origins and needs of sidewalks, and how they have evolved into modern sidewalks.  Learn the Five main purposes of a sidewalk and the challenges with funding and prioritization of sidewalks, especially in rural communities. Discover what's involved with the development of Pedestrian Master plans and the responsibility of maintenance, specifically California Streets and Highway Code.  Learn how the Americans with Disabilities Act is a major part of sidewalk maintenance, and conclude with the types of repairs for sidewalks, partnerships with risk management authorities, and preferred methods of repair and asset management.
